Trip Introduction


This is one of the most beautifully diverse treks in the world  providing mostly moderate hiking, mesmerizing scenery and a mix of cultural heritage that any other trek in Nepal can offer. The major ethnic group in this area are the Gurung peopl,  historically famous for serving as soldiers in the British Gorkha Army.

This trek begins from a sub-tropical valley and climb up to a glaciated alpine zone through oak and rhododendron forests.  We ultimately make our way to Machapuchare Base Camp where we will stay before ascending to the alpine mountain sanctuary of Annapurna Base Camp (13,550 ft.). The peak highlights of this trek are amazing views of Mt. Machapuchare (22,943 ft.), Mt. Dhulagiri (26,794 ft.) and Mt. Annapurna South (26,545 ft.).

    Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be received by our representative and transferred to your Hotel. If arrive early mid-day is free to venture around the city close to your hotel. Introduction Session at the hotel in the evening.

  • DAY 3Fly to Pokhara, Drive to Kimchi and Trek to Ghandruk

    After early breakfast, Transfer to Domestic Airport for 25 minutes flight to Pokhara (827m/2713 ft). Upon arrival in Pokhara, the beautiful lake city, we will take 2.5-hour drive through Pokhara-Baglung highway passing a beautiful village towards Kimchi (1,550m/5,085ft), the starting point of our trek.

    From Kimche we will have to walk for 2 hours passing through charming villages with beautiful houses, stone paved alleys and mostly uphill trails & stairs until we reach Ghandruk. we check into our lodge, freshen up and have free time until dinner is served.

  • DAY 4Ghandruk to Chhomrong

    Today after breakfast, we begin uphill trails from Ghandruk to Chhomrong. On our way, we will drop down to Kimrong Khola (Stream), it will be bit steep & winding and after crossing the long extension bridge over the stream, we will walk uphill again until we reach the village of Chhomrong. It is a beautiful village right below the giant Annapurna massive. we check into our lodge and have free time until dinner is served.

    This morning after breakfast, we leave Chhomrong and descends 2,500 stone steps before crossing the Chhomrong river.We cross a suspension bridge over the river and begin an uphill climb to village of Sinuwa. We then pass through a beautiful forest to the village of Kuldihar and then we continue on an easy descent to Bamboo. Upon arrival in Bamboo, we check into our lodge and have free time before dinner is served. Our guides will deliver the plan for the next day.

  • DAY 6Bamboo to Deurali

    After breakfast, we begin ascending slowly through a bamboo forest which is usually damp and cold due to hidden from the sunlight. We then walk uphill on a trail which is sometimes steep. After a while, the forest opens up and we are out in the sun again with amazing views of the glacial river below. The vegetation becomes thinner as we go higher. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here our trail descends to a river before ascending to Deurali, allowing spectacular views of the surrounding hills, valley and Mt. Dhaulagiri. When we arrive in Deurali, we check into our lodge and have free time until dinner is served. Our guides will deliver the plan for the next day.

  • DAY 7Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp via Machhapuchhre Base Camp

    This morning we wake up earlier than usual, have breakfast and begin ascending slowly. The trail leads over a glacial river bed and then sticks to a rocky cliff which is steep sometimes. We continue to walk for a couple of hours until we reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC 3700m/12135ft). From here we get excellent views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna mountains. After lunch, We continue to ascend gently to the Annapurna Base Camp. During our ascent we can appreciate remarkable views of the Himalayan panorama. it is amazing experience to reach the base camp of Mt. Annapurna, surrounded by magnificent peaks. we will take photographs and hang out for some time before checking into our lodge for dinner and a good night’s sleep.   • DAY 8Retrace to Bamboo

    After breakfast this morning, we pack our bags and begin the descent back to the village of Bamboo. From Annapurna Base Camp our trail rapidly descends past the Machhapuchhre Base camp, Deurali, and Doban and finally to Bamboo. Today’s trek is downhill, and we shall be retracing our steps, so it should not be that difficult. Upon arrival in Bamboo, we check into our lodge and have free time to rest until being served dinner. Our guides will provide the plan for the next day.

  • DAY 9Bamboo to Jhinu Danda

    From Bamboo, we trek to the village of Kuldighar and retrace our step back to the Chhomrong river before climbing the many steps up to the village of Chhomrong. There we take a lunch break and then descends to Jhinu Danda. We take the less travelled path to the village of Jhinu through rain forests and farms. At Jhinu Danda, just few minutes’ walk from our lodge we can enjoy the amazing hot spring to relax and soak our aching muscles. we can spend the rest of the afternoon taking a rest and relaxing.

    After Breakfast, we pack our bags, and retrace to Naya Pul from where we began the trek. Our trek today takes us through the amazing scenery and villages of the Nepali hillsides. We stop in a village to have lunch and continue to Naya Pul. Upon arrival in Nayapul, we say goodbye to our porters and board our vehicle back to Pokhara the beautiful lake city. Check into hotels take showers and have free time to venture around the beautiful lake side.

    Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. Trip Details


The Trekking Group

For this trek there will be one leader, assistant leader (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and Sherpa porters for carrying luggage (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that should anybody in the group get sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the trek for groups of any size but we after years of experience we have found a maximum of twelve people to be the optimum size for a successful trip. However, if you’d like to book this trip for a larger group then that can be arranged too.

Accommodations

We will be accommodated in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu/Pokhara and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 299. We will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu.

The most significant thing that makes this trek, enjoyable and memorable is the skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful leader(s) and the crew members with the ability of operating our days on the mountain smoothly. Our trip will be led by the best and most professional leaders. Though often overlooked, it’s no exaggeration to say the entire trekking and expedition industry in Nepal is built on the back of hard-working local porters. It is their tireless efforts carrying supplies, equipment and baggage that make journeying to these remote areas possible. Therefore, we are firmly committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated, well paid and we provide the level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand.

Environmental Concerns

The Everest Region is stunningly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as much as we do. Therefore, we believe that the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. Travel House Nepal employs a ‘zero impact’ policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. Travel House Nepal, therefore, enforces a number of do’s and don’ts. Please talk to your trek leader to avoid environmental impacts.

Travel Insurance

It is a condition upon joining any of Travel House Nepal’s trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please note that we don’t arrange or sell insurance.

Acclimatization

This trek’s itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up at higher altitudes too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to result in death. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. For example, at an altitude above of 5000m, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Therefore, our body needs many days to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. During this trip, we take rest in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Mount Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light rucksack. In some days we might even need to walk for 7 to 8 hours. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Travel House Nepal before booking the trek. We also recommend that you consult your doctor(s) before the trip.

Best Time to Travel

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for this trip. Although this trip can be taken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.
