Today 26th August 2018, Janai Purnima also known as ‘Rakshya Bandhan’ is celebrated all over the country by Hindu community. On this day, Hindu men, especially the Brahmins and Chettris perform their annual change of Janai and all who celebrates this festival goes to Brahman priests to tie yellow sacred threads around their wrist. It is a big day to observe the Shaman culture in and around Kathmandu valley.
This festival is also associated with a special soup ‘Kwati’. Newars of Kathmandu Valley prepare this soup with the mixture of sprouted beans as a special nutritious food for the day and family get-together to feasts.
